| NO
OUTDOOR BURNING ALLOWED IN SUDDEN VALLEY EXCEPT "RECREATIONAL"
FIRES
|
The
SVCA Board approved changes in the Rules and Regulations, banning
all outdoor burning in Sudden Valley. The approved changes forbid
Land Clearing Burning (outdoor burning of trees, stumps,
shrubbery, or other natural vegetation from land clearing projects)
and Residential Outdoor Burning (burning leaves, clippings,
prunings and other yard and gardening refuse). Two exceptions
are Recreational Fires (total fuel area must be less than three
feet in diameter and used for the purpose of cooking or entertainment)
and Fire Fighting Instructional Fires.

Recreational
Fires Must Meet the Following Conditions:

| Depending
on the severity of conditions, it is possible that recreational
fires be banned during county wide burn bans. To Find out if recreational
fires are acceptable during a burn ban,
contact
the Burn Ban Hotline at 676-6934. |

YARD & GARDENING REFUSE REMOVAL |
Burning
yard waste is prohibited in Sudden Valley. You can dispose your
yard debris at the Clean Green Yard Waste Transfer Site located
at Lakeway and Woburn. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every
Saturday and Sunday (including holiday weekends) from the first
weekend in March through November 27th. Fee: $2.00 per load.

at 360-676-6850. If you prefer to have the debris picked up and
hauled away, contact the administration office for a list of companies
that provide this service.

| FOREST
AND WILDLIFE STEWARDSHIP (FAWS) PLAN UPDATE |
Fieldwork
for phase one of the Division 16 FAWS project started the week
of September 20th. The long-term goals of the FAWS program are
to develop personal and property safety for the Sudden Valley
community, provide aesthetics and recreation opportunities for
residents and guests, maintain healthy forests, preserve wildlife
and fisheries as integral parts of the Sudden Valley development,
maintain and enhance the community's property values and to provide
fire protection. The Division 16 FAWS project will consist of
three phases:
| PHASE
1 - TREE REMOVAL |
| Identification
and removal of trees will be supervised and coordinated
by Alan Soicher of Evergreen Ecoforestry LLC using the FAWS
plans as a guideline. |
| PHASE
2 - BRUSH & DEBRI REMOVAL |
| This
will be conducted in consultation with the Department of
Natural Resources under their Firewise Program. |
| PHASE
3 - TRAILS & BIRD NEST BOXES |
| Construction
and installation to be completed by volunteers and SVCA
staff. |

WATER SAMPLING AT BEAVER AND AUSTIN CREEKS---------- |
WWU
and the City of Bellingham sample water from Beaver and Austin
Creeks as part of the ongoing monitoring project.
Samples are also collected monthly during a weekday at 4 sites
along Austin Creek.
