ELECTION RESULTS

NO OUTDOOR BURNING ALLOWED IN SUDDEN VALLEY EXCEPT "RECREATIONAL" FIRES

The SVCA Board approved changes in the Rules and Regulations, banning all outdoor burning in Sudden Valley. The approved changes forbid Land Clearing Burning (outdoor burning of trees, stumps, shrubbery, or other natural vegetation from land clearing projects) and Residential Outdoor Burning (burning leaves, clippings, prunings and other yard and gardening refuse). Two exceptions are Recreational Fires (total fuel area must be less than three feet in diameter and used for the purpose of cooking or entertainment) and Fire Fighting Instructional Fires.

Recreational Fires Must Meet the Following Conditions:
  • Fire is in an enclosure no larger than 3 feet across and 16 inches high made of cement block, stones or #10 gauge steel
  • Materials being burned must be kept lower than the sidewalls of the enclosure
  • A charged garden hose or 2 five-gallon buckets of water must be on site.
  • A shovel or rake must be on site.
  • The fire must be 25 feet from any structure
  • Tree branches must be cleared to the height of 15 feet above enclosure.
  • One person age 16 or older who is capable of putting the fire out must be in attendance at all times.
  • The fire must be contained within a firebreak (bare ground).
  • The landowner's permission must be obtained if not on your property.
Depending on the severity of conditions, it is possible that recreational fires be banned during county wide burn bans. To Find out if recreational fires are acceptable during a burn ban, contact the Burn Ban Hotline at 676-6934.
