Clubhouse Parking Lot Closed 5/21-22
The parking lot located next to the Clubhouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday, May 21st and 22nd, because of repairs to the building’s HVAC system. Golf and restaurant patrons are advised to park in the lower gravel parking lot. The parking lot should re-open at the end of the working day on Friday so that parking will be available on the weekend.
Please call Administration at 360-734-6430 if you have any questions.
Overflow Parking Now Available at Marina and AM/PM Beach
Parking was challenging last weekend at SVCA’s two lakefront parks because overflow parking areas could not be set up due to very wet ground. Due to the hot weather and lack of rain, the ground is now dry enough for parking and Maintenance has opened the overflow areas. Parking should not be a challenge going forward.
Community Center Open as Usual
Flooding in the recreation corridor has receded with no damage to the Community Center. The center is open now and will operate as usual. At this time there are no road closures or other storm impacts to report. If you are aware of an issue affecting the roadways, please call Administration at 360-734-6430 to report the problem.
Community Center Closed
The Community Center at 8 Barn View Drive has been closed early because of the potential for flooding. There is no flooding at this time. The water level of Austin Creek may rise tonight, however, so we are placing sandbags at the ground floor entrances to protect the building. These sandbags prevent safe entry into the building, so previously scheduled programs have been canceled.
The Community Center will re-open at 9 am on Thursday, unless there is flooding. This post will be updated on Thursday morning to make members aware of conditions in the recreation corridor.
Board Announces Change in General Management
The SVCA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that former General Manager, Jo Anne Jensen, is returning to Sudden Valley. Effective Sunday, November 2nd, Jo Anne will take over from outgoing GM Michael Bennett, who resigned his position for personal reasons.
Please join us in thanking Michael for his service over the past year, and in welcoming Jo Anne back to the Association. We look forward to a seamless transition. Both Michael and Jo Anne will be present at the AGM on Saturday if you would like to say goodbye or hello to them directly.

Reservoir Demolition Notice
On Monday, August 25, 2025, a contractor for Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District will begin demolition of the existing 1-million gallon welded-steel Division 7 reservoir constructed in 1970. The reservoir location is near Swallow Circle in Gate 2. The water reservoir demolition is part of the District’s larger, multi-year effort to replace the aging tank with two 237,900 gallon reservoirs, together totaling 475,800 gallons. The project provides seismic improvements and implements an earthquake early warning system (ShakeAlert®) to automatically isolate a portion of the volume from rapid depletion due to possible water main breaks following an earthquake.
Demolition will proceed in accordance with a pending Whatcom County Demolition Permit and Northwest Clean Air Agency approved demolition permit #25-413, attached. Lead was detected in the tank’s paint and primer and the contractor is required to perform lead abatement and containment in accordance with the applicable laws, regulations, and codes of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) and any Federal, State, County or local requirements related to the demolition, handling, loading, transporting, recycling, and/or disposals of the materials related to this work. No asbestos was detected in the reservoir materials.
The demolition work is expected to take approximately 3 weeks and will be followed with site restoration. Please direct any project questions to Greg Nicoll, P.E., District Engineer for Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District (360.734.9224, greg.nicoll@lwwsd.org).
Please note that the reservoir is not located on Sudden Valley property and Sudden Valley is not involved in this project.
